Paediatric obesity: new “Parent Workshops” at the Children’s Hospital (HUDERF)
The Multidisciplinary Centre for Childhood and Adolescent Obesity (CPMO) at the Queen Fabiola University Children’s Hospital (HUDERF) is launching a series of workshops for parents of children receiving care for obesity.
These sessions aim to provide a supportive and open space for discussion, while strengthening the role of families in the comprehensive management of paediatric obesity.
At the Queen Fabiola University Children’s Hospital (HUDERF), the Clinique Poids Junior, part of the care pathway within the Multidisciplinary Centre for Childhood and Adolescent Obesity (CPMO), has for several years been developing a comprehensive approach that combines medical follow-up, psychological support, dietary guidance and adapted physical activity.
In line with this philosophy, new parent workshops will be launched in autumn 2025, aiming to involve families even more closely in the care process.
A space for parents – without their children
The parent workshops, led by a specialised psychologist, offer a confidential and supportive environment where parents can speak openly about their experiences, concerns and daily challenges related to their child’s care.
The goal: to break isolation, share practical experiences and gain a better understanding of the family dynamics that influence obesity.
These sessions, held at HUDERF, reflect the CPMO’s holistic philosophy – to support families in every dimension in order to foster lasting changes in lifestyle habits.
Workshops for children and adolescents
In parallel, the Clinique Poids Junior continues to offer its weekly workshops for children and adolescents, every Wednesday afternoon. These sessions provide a safe and interactive space where participants can learn, share and feel understood, while becoming active players in their own care journey.
Through fun and educational activities, young people explore topics such as balanced nutrition, body image, emotions and motivation for change – valuable opportunities to build self-esteem and give new meaning to their treatment process.
Moving to rediscover the joy of movement
Finally, the sports workshops, supervised by physical activity professionals, are designed to help children rediscover the pleasure of moving. In a positive, non-competitive atmosphere, they take part in different motor activities that encourage enjoyment, coordination and self-confidence.
These sessions form an essential part of the multidisciplinary approach at the Clinique Poids Junior: they help children rebuild a healthy relationship with their bodies and physical effort, key to achieving lasting physical and psychological well-being.
