Our role
The Cardiac Surgery Department at the Children's Hospital, in partnership with Erasme Hospital and CHU Brugmann, is a center of excellence dedicated to the care of cardiac conditions in young patients. Every year, our team performs hundreds of operations, covering a wide range of procedures, including coronary artery correction, heart valve surgeries, as well as congenital anomalies affecting patients from infants to adolescents.
Thanks to the continuous evolution of surgical techniques, we are capable of treating patients of all ages, from newborns to teenagers, including those with increasingly complex heart diseases.
Our specialities
By carefully assessing the unique situation of each child, we determine the most appropriate time to consider a potential corrective heart intervention. This timeframe can vary significantly, ranging from the need for immediate intervention after birth to long-term planning.
Within the Children's Hospital, the management of pediatric heart diseases is a collaborative effort. Our cardiac surgery team closely collaborates with other healthcare experts, including cardiologists, anesthesiologists, specialized nurses, and psychologists, to provide comprehensive and personalized care to each patient.
