SOS Enfants at HUDERF: a support service for caregivers facing child vulnerability concerns
he SOS Enfants – Laeken team is now active at the Children’s Hospital (HUDERF) to support healthcare professionals – including general practitioners – when confronted with cases of abuse, suspected endangerment, or significant vulnerability in young patients.

The team offers a rapid multidisciplinary assessment and coordinated follow-up in collaboration with hospital services and community networks.
Complementing the existing units in Saint-Pierre and Saint-Luc, this new team reinforces the SOS Enfants coverage in Brussels.
SOS Enfants ULB H.U.B – HUDERF site is composed of paediatricians, child psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, educators, a legal advisor, and administrative staff.
Who can contact the team?
Any professional or individual concerned about a child’s well-being:
doctor, nurse, teacher, school counsellor, social worker, neighbour, parent…
When should you reach out?
- In case of suspected abuse or danger
- When a family situation raises concerns for the child’s safety or development
- If a medical-psycho-social opinion is needed to better understand a complex situation
How does it work?
- Quick initial contact for a preliminary assessment
- Multidisciplinary evaluation considering the family and social context
- Therapeutic follow-up if needed (consultations, support)
- Collaboration with hospital departments (paediatrics, child psychiatry...) and external partners (CPAS, SAJ, schools…)
Good to know
- Any intervention requires parental consent, unless there is a court decision
The child must be officially residing in one of the 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region
